Description
A refreshing and naturally sweet Strawberry Iced Tea made from scratch with fresh strawberries, black tea, and a touch of lemon. Perfect for summer gatherings!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water (for strawberry syrup)
- 6 black tea bags
- 8 cups boiling water (for tea base)
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Fresh mint for garnish
- Ice cubes for serving
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Carefully strain the hot strawberry mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing the fruit to extract the juices. Discard or save the pulp, and let the syrup cool.
- In a large, heatproof pitcher, steep the black tea bags in 8 cups of boiling water for exactly 5 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags.
- Once the tea has cooled slightly, stir in the cooled strawberry syrup and fresh lemon juice.
- Chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Serve cold over ice cubes, garnished with a sprig of fresh mint and a fresh strawberry slice.
Notes
For a less sweet tea, reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup when making the syrup. You can easily substitute green tea for black tea if you prefer a lighter flavor.
