Ingredients
For the Beef Wontons:
1 lb ground beef
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon white pepper
1 package wonton wrappers
For the Soup:
6 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1-inch piece of ginger, sliced
2 garlic cloves, smashed
1 cup bok choy, chopped
1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced
2 green onions, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Wontons:
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, and white pepper. Mix well. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Wet the edges with water, fold into a triangle, and seal. Bring the two corners together to form a crescent shape. Repeat until all the filling is used.
Make the Soup Base:
In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, sliced ginger, and smashed garlic. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to infuse the flavors. Remove the ginger and garlic pieces before adding other ingredients.
Cook the Wontons:
Gently add the prepared wontons to the simmering broth. Let them cook for about 4-5 minutes or until they float to the top, indicating they are cooked through.
Add Vegetables:
Stir in the bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
Serve:
Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring each portion has several wontons and vegetables. Garnish with chopped green onions for a fresh touch. Enjoy your comforting and flavorful beef wonton soup!
