Beef Filling:
- 1 lb (500g) beef mince or chuck, diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
Pastry:
- 2 sheets shortcrust pastry (for base)
- 2 sheets puff pastry (for top)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat, brown the beef until fully cooked.
- Add onions and garlic; cook until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and herbs.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well.
- Add beef broth gradually, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Simmer until thickened; season with salt and pepper. Let cool.
- Prepare the Pastry:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out shortcrust pastry and line individual pie tins.
- Fill with the cooled beef mixture.
- Cover with puff pastry, sealing the edges with a fork.
- Brush the top with egg wash and cut small steam vents.
- Bake:
- Place the pies on a baking tray.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
Notes
